Pretty Good

With the exception of the shape puzzle, all of the puzzles had answers that felt very logical to solve. The shape puzzle felt like it was logical, but there was either a key missing or something I just wasn't getting. The differing sizes and positions of some of the shape signs confused me. It ended up just being easier to "force" my way through that puzzle, trying every combination until I found the right one.

Some music and sound effects would have been nice too. Other than those two things, pretty darn good.

Good.

Initially, yes, this game is pretty difficult, but as usual, practice makes perfect. After about eight or nine tries, I was able to beat it successfully. It was fun, and I would like to give a few pieces of advice to other players (my apologies to LazyMuffin): do your best to master rapid-firing; done properly, you can keep the starting cats off your wall for enough waves to start upgrading. Firing before the cats get on the screen is a good way to take out a few before they become an issue. And finally, annihilate the hairball-spitting cats with extreme prejudice, because when they start really increasing in numbers, they will destroy your wall like it's nothing. Do your best not to get hit, upgrade ASAP, and practice and you'll win soon enough.

Fun game!

Bugs

Three of them (minor spoilers ahead):

One, when I first tried to kill the vine, but didn't click on the bubble with Hansel's face in it (the one that makes him eat the vine/squiggle/face-stealer) after peeing, I couldn't tell the fairy where to move anymore. Refreshing the page fixed that.

Two, whacking Hansel with the stick on ANY screen seems to make him fall off-screen, give the "Free Bird" medal, and then restart at the cliff edge with the statues, even if you haven't been there yet.

Three, I don't seem to be able to make Gretel use the mirror on the face-stealer woman because Gretel is covered by the inventory bag, so it doesn't register as dragging it to her. At least, I think that's what's happening.

I'd really like to rate this higher, because it's very good overall, but I've got to dock you a few points for releasing it while it still has so many bugs.

The Main Game is Great

Unfortunately, I've found a glitch in the controls: when you jump and try to move left or right at the same time, sometimes the command sticks and you keep moving in that direction even after you've let go of the arrow key. I know for sure this happens because I didn't touch the keyboard after landing, and he still kept walking. It's a small glitch really, but when you try for the speed run and perfect medals, it can completely mess up an otherwise good run.

However, you can consider this a review by exception: anything I don't mention is excellent.

flashygoodness responds:

Sadly that's not a programming issue; it's a performance issue. It's either your computer or your browser that causes the keys to stick, and I can't do anything to solve it.

Overall, Great

Unfortunately, it was stopped from perfection by a few things. First of all, the jump key stops working if you speed boost and hold down the fire button at the same time. Even after beating the final level with five stars and the Level 5 Star and Superstar achievements show up on screen, when I go to the achievement screen, it says I don't have them. Next, on one of the levels where there are two doors across from each other at the top of one area, when I came out of the left door and jumped, I hit the top of the right door, and then I glitched throught the ground to the level underneath. Also, is this game supposed to have medals? There were a couple of "Medal Get"s that popped up in the upper left corner (20 kills and 20 stars, I think), but I haven't seen anything about them since.

It was very Metroid-esque, though that's not a bad thing, and while it did have its eerie moments, overall it wasn't really scary. It was, however, very well drawn and animated. Fun and well-done, but it needs just a little more polish to be one of the best.

Overall,

Really fun. Wreaking havoc on the zombies is gratifying, especially using an RPG on one of those extra tough, bulgy mutant zombies. The friendly fire is kind of annoying, especially when it's one NPC shooting another. That didn't stop me from leading four around at once, but I could have had six, at least. I suppose the upshot is that it doesn't hurt the game any, but it is kind of a bummer. Also, after I found the daughter, I'm pretty sure I stopped getting messages and backstory stuff all together; I just found money and ammo. I would have really liked to have learned more about the story if I could (though not being told locations anymore wasn't a problem). Finally, I feel that the map should show where you haven't been, even if you know your daughter isn't there, so you know where to look for new stuff and survivors. However, as you might guess from the score of 9/10, these are very minor problems. A definite favorite.

Addicting

Very simple, but very fun, and I like the old-school video game feel. The logic needed reminds me of sudoku or mine sweeper.

One thing I noticed, on level 26, there's a pair of vertical arrows missing between a population: 2 island on the bottom and a population: 1 island in the fifth row from the bottom. The puzzle is still solvable, but if the idea is to provide us with all possible connections, then that needs to be there.

A couple of glitches...

First of all, at one point during the boss fight, my gun stopped working and the game started getting really choppy. I was able to fix it by refreshing the page and selecting "Continue," but you should still look into it.

Secondly, I've definitely been playing for two hours, and my timer shows it, but I didn't unlock the two-hour medal.

Pretty Good

However, you should consider providing a walkthrough for the players who get stuck. That way, people who figure it out on their own can feel good about not using the guide, and people who can't figure it out still get to see the whole game.

For the record, I'm one of the people who couldn't figure it out. Which brings me to my next point: you can cheat your way through the game by right-clicking and clicking 'Forward'. That is something you definitely need to fix.

A great series with even greater potential!

All of the Reemus games so far have been great. Personally, I think that, depending on how long the entire series ends up being, this has the potential of a full-fledged PC game. Compile all the chapters into one game, get some voice actors, and you have a classic full-length point and click adventure!

As for the game itself, I had just a few minor grievances: Reemus and Liam's movement could be speeded up just a bit, and their animations for walking, though detailed, seemed a little choppy at times. Once again, though, those are -very- minor.

Can't wait for Chapter 4!

People are friggin' WEIRD.
